Some Things to Think
About
Buy a Gregg-ruled stenographer's
notebook, one of those 6" x 9" books
with a line down the middle of every
page. Whenever you're faced with a
significant decision, write the
pragmatic reasons for each option on
opposite sides of the page. Ruthlessly
cross out any reasons that involve
loyalty you aren't absolutely positive
will be returned.
Save your daily to-do lists and go
over them once a month. Jot down the
activities that turned out to be a waste
of time or that produced negative
results. Search for any pattern that is
tied to an emotional commitment that is
not paying off.
Don't be reluctant to discuss major
decisions with friends or family members
who can be impartial. If you feel
uncomfortable bringing up subjects like
making a career change, make an
appointment with a professional job
counselor or psychologist. The cost will
be far outweighed by the benefits.
